How and Why Acupuncture Can Help You

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine, hair-thin, sterile, disposable, needles into specific points on the body for the purpose of relieving pain and other problems.

The Western theory on why it works to relieve pain is that the introduction of the needles stimulates the body to release its own natural pain relieving chemicals known as endorphins, which are hugely powerful even in small amounts. Another Western theory is the “Gate” or “Counter Irritation” theory. This theory states that the nervous system can be distracted from sensing pain in one area by the introduction of the needles in another area.

The Eastern explanation of how acupuncture works involves a body energy the ancients called “Qi”. Deficient, excess, or Qi that is not flowing properly is believed to be the cause of disease, dysfunction, and pain. Acupuncture nourishes, balances, and moves the Qi, to correct a problem or pain. This does not mean that your diagnosis of “Arthritis of the Knee” is incorrect, it simply means that it might be viewed as “Stagnant Qi and Blood” by the practitioner of acupuncture.

This is a higly condensed explanation, and the "Nurse Educator" part of Jane would love to tell you more about how acupuncture and her care can bring balance, wellness, and peace in to your life. She is happy to do a free phone consultation.

...When I first met Jane, she was very warm and friendly and took her time getting to know my lifestyle and medical history. The concept of trying to treat the body as a "whole" made much more sense to me than trying to treat every ailment as an individual problem. ~S.M.
