Frequently Asked Questions about Pain, Anxiety, Insomnia, G.I. Symptoms, Menopause, and Acupuncture Treatment
What is an acupuncture treatment like?
It is very relaxing. It is relatively painless because the sterile, disposable needles are very thin, almost as thin as a strand of hair. About 10 to 12 needles are inserted per treatment in areas primarily on the arms and legs.
Can you treat more than one problem at a time?
Absolutely, because acupuncture and other strategies of Traditional Chinese Medicine are holistic by nature and design. Just one acupuncture point can be used to address a number of symptoms. For example, if you are seeking treatment primarily for hot flashes or infertility, I can also treat knee pain if you suffer from that.
How long does a treatment take?
The needles are in for about 20 to 30 minutes, but the appointment time is about one hour as visits often include nutrition counseling and education.
How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on the nature and history of your problem or health goal. When Jane Gleeson listens to your history and assesses your condition, she can give you a better idea of the length of your treatment plan.
What are the fees for acupuncture?
Jane Gleeson’s fees are in line with other local practitioners and medical centers, and she tries to do the best work she can within your budget.
Does Insurance cover the cost of treatments?
Some insurance companies do cover the cost of treatment. (See “A Word about Insurance”.)
How should I prepare on my appointment day?
Please be sure to wear or bring comfortable clothing — sleeves and pants that can be rolled up work well. Do not skip any meals on the day of your appointment, as acupuncture can make you very relaxed, and you may get too relaxed if you have not eaten.
